Why get a home inspection?

Getting a home inspection can prevent major headaches in the future. A good home inspector will not only tell you any possible issues with the home but will also educate you about proper home maintenance. A home inspection is a general visual overview of the physical structure and systems of a house from the roof to the foundation. The standard home inspector’s report will cover the condition of the home’s heating system; central air conditioning system (temperature permitting); interior plumbing and electrical systems; the roof, attic and visible insulation; walls, ceilings, floors, windows and doors; the foundation, basement and structural components. Typically you must have your inspections completed within 15 days of the execution of your sales agreement. Payment is due at the time of inspection. While you are not required to attend it is highly recommended. You will be able to observe the inspector and be able to ask questions along the way. You can choose an inspector by asking friends and family for referrals or ask your real estate professional. You can also peruse the list of ASHI approved inspectors.
